Never try and pick a bottom but look for the clues

The action yesterday on the NASDAQ was particularly interesting as market movement resulted in a “gravestone doji,” which is a Japanese Candlestick formation that often signals a turnaround.

What a “gravestone doji” means is that the buyers and sellers are in an evenly matched tug-of-war and potentially signals the first clues that the NASDAQ may be putting in an interim low.

Take a look at the chart and see what you think. If the NASDAQ market closes higher than yesterday’s high point ,which is 1,806, then there’s a good chance that we’ll see this market at least have what some traders call a dead cat bounce.

It is not profitable to try to pick the top or in this case a bottom. What you want to look for are clues that maybe, just maybe, the market is beginning to put in a low.

Hi Adam,

I was looking at some charts today, and the patterns from early 2000 to late 2002 are so similar to our current market mess, although the downward momentium this time is much stronger, with the downard slope being 150% steeper than last time. (The market took 18 months to reach similar levels last time, 12 months this time)

To me, the chart looks like we’ll probably get an intermediate bounce, similar to the bounce we got between September of 2001, and March of 02.

I think the bottom is near, and that the 800 level on the S&P 500 will hold.

One thing I’m finding interesting is how low volume has been during on the S&P 500 the past 7 years when compared to the last 90’s / early 2000’s. It was pretty clear when the bear was fasing last time because voulme continued to tank until it reached more “normal” levels.

Adam, you are the man. I have learned so much from you guys!I bought the DDM this morning at DOW down almost 700 and sold it on the mid day launch. Knowing metals/mining always lead the charge, I bought RIO at $11.30 and sold it for $12.27 a couple hours later. What more could you ask for!
